{"id":2332,"date":"2026-01-29T12:55:36","date_gmt":"2026-01-29T12:55:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/designatedesign.co.uk\/?page_id=2332"},"modified":"2026-01-29T13:12:04","modified_gmt":"2026-01-29T13:12:04","slug":"pair-of-houses-in-brighton","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/designatedesign.co.uk\/?page_id=2332","title":{"rendered":"Pair of Houses in Brighton"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p data-wp-context---core-fit-text=\"core\/fit-text::{&quot;fontSize&quot;:&quot;&quot;}\" data-wp-init---core-fit-text=\"core\/fit-text::callbacks.init\" data-wp-interactive data-wp-style--font-size=\"core\/fit-text::context.fontSize\" class=\"has-fit-text\">Following the purchase of the site at auction in <strong>2011<\/strong>, we were appointed to secure planning permission for <strong>two new residential houses<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The scheme was carefully designed to respond to its sensitive surroundings, with <strong>no overlooking toward the school to the north or neighbouring properties to the south<\/strong>, ensuring privacy and compliance with planning requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Architecturally, the houses were conceived with a strong contemporary character, including a <strong>fully glazed fa\u00e7ade arranged over two storeys<\/strong>, complemented by <strong>Sussex flintwork and red brick corner detailing<\/strong> to anchor the design within its local context.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From a sustainability perspective, the original proposal incorporated <strong>flat roofs to maximise photovoltaic performance<\/strong>. Through the planning process, this was refined in response to local design guidance, resulting in <strong>pitched slate roofs with recessed gutters<\/strong> to better reflect the character of nearby buildings while maintaining a high-quality, modern appearance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The development was required to meet <strong>Code for Sustainable Homes Level 5<\/strong>, a rigorous sustainability benchmark at the time.
